Cloud/SaaS Solution & Technology Training

Organizations evolve over time as a byproduct of the challenges they face and how they solve them. Unfortunately, as organizations grow and standardize on the people, training and systems they use, they risk turning off their innovation engines and becoming complacent. If this behavior is drawn out long enough, organizations can eventually look embarrassingly ‘long in the tooth’ and even risk obsolesce because of their inability to keep up with the changing needs of their customers or clients. The world is rapidly shifting from an insular, installed locally, legacy mindset, to a connected, always up to date cloud-based and SaaS (Software as a Service) mindset. Many leaders are struggling to keep up. Without keeping an eye on the future, they miss the boat on new technologies that provide cost and time savings, more connected systems and dramatic reductions in redundancies and time waste.

New and old companies alike are now realizing dramatic ROI, improved efficiencies, better understanding of their KPIs and more control by adopting cloud-based and SaaS solutions and mindsets. The challenge however, is in identifying what part of a legacy solution needs to evolve, and how to transition and re-ignite an innovation culture that embraces the best of the old and new alike. In this training program, participants will gain the technical skills and knowledge for selecting, comparing testing, piloting, customizing and scaling cloud-based and SaaS solutions to augment, extend or replace existing capabilities of an organization.

Instructional Objectives:

This training program provides participants with the opportunity to strengthen their confidence and competence in their role as a facilitator and/or manager of teams, projects, work groups in their organization related to the subject matter. The following topics will be covered:
  • Defining legacy vs cloud/SaaS solutions at an abstract level; specifically understanding the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of both mindsets.
  • Pinpointing SPoFs (Single Points of Failure) and legacy systems that warrant investigation and potential replacement or adaptation to a cloud ecosystem.
  • Learning how to effectively select and shortlist potential solutions for comparison, evaluation and testing.
  • How to identify the organizations functional mandatories and priorities vs. ‘nice to haves’ and ‘someday maybe’ functions on road map.
  • How to map out business process maps and document key functionality and behaviors and actions to assist solution consultants or staff in a discovery process.
  • Considerations for setting up a scalable, test and pilot environment and developing go/no-go criteria for a roll-out.
  • Considerations for customizing solutions including vetting when do it internally and when to seek a contractor or knowledge expert.
  • Considerations about security in a cloud-based world including overarching theory and specific topics such as TFA (two-factor authentication), use of enterprise password management services, user vs role security, siloing and obfuscating data, GDPR and data policy, audit and logging, and use of honeypots to detect suspicious behavior.
  • Considerations and discussion about integrating cloud/SaaS with organization website.
  • Understanding opportunities for scaling and connecting cloud solutions with options such as, extensions, addons, APIs and third-party SaaS web integration services such as Zapier and IFTT.
  • Cultivating skills to be a cloud-savvy innovation manager and work team.
  • How to cultivate an innovation mindset and culture to stay abreast of new developments and opportunities for the organization.

Measurable Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the training participants will:
  • Understand how to find, compare and select cloud and SaaS solutions.
  • Understand how to assist or lead a solutions discovery process, mapping business processes and documenting and capturing key data, mappings, views, actions and behaviors so that an internal or external team can take appropriate action.
  • Have an in-depth understanding of how to test and pilot cloud and SaaS solutions with a team
  • Understand how to plan and mitigate risk in adopting cloud and SaaS solutions.
  • Understand the importance of and how to foster an innovation mindset and culture in the organization to take advantage of new opportunities when they occur.

Assessement Methods:

Our instructors are continuously assessing the student’s comprehension and ability to apply their learning through assignments, case studies, and interactive classroom activities that check for understanding. This is crucial in today’s fast-paced business environment as each new skill participants not only learn, but are able to apply in the workplace will have a huge positive impact on the business’s ability to thrive. Unlike structured public courses at colleges and universities that provide more general knowledge and must follow a rigid timeline, our on-site group training format allows our instructors to take the time to ensure that participants are able to take the skills and knowledge they gain in class and apply it to their unique situation to get the results they want in their work and business. We assess the student’s learning and progress using the following methods:

  • Application assignments for in between each training session to apply what was learned in their role in the business. (These assignments are sent in to the instructor in between each session so that the instructor can review them and provide further feedback if the student has not completed the assignment correctly.)
  • Interactive exercises, questions and discussion during the training sessions to ensure that the student understands how to apply the concepts in their role and/or business.
  • Student self-evaluation of their learning at the beginning and end of the program. (This is a brief 5 minute paper survey that the student takes at the beginning and end of each module to provide them with a measure of the knowledge they have gained from the training).
  • (Note: Our instructors are always available via phone and e-mail in-between training sessions should students need assistance with their assignments. This ensures that students are able to complete assignments and be fully prepared to build on their learning in the next session.)
